Gone are the days of only having the choice of bridges or dentures that slip and slide around your mouth! With dental implants, patients can enjoy a beautiful, durable, and permanent tooth-replacement option – and even get back to all of their favorite foods!

While most people have heard about dental implants, not many know about the newer option of immediate dental implants. Keep reading to learn more about these implants and whether or not you might be a good candidate for this tooth-replacement system.

Immediate Dental Implants

Immediate dental implants are implants that are inserted into the jawbone immediately following a tooth extraction or bone graft. While they are typically inserted during the same visit as the tooth extraction, sometimes the implant can be inserted within two weeks after the extraction. Even if patients have to wait a couple of weeks to receive their dental implant after their tooth extraction or bone graft, it is still considered an immediate dental implant, as traditional dental implants require months of healing before placement.

Once the implant has been placed, our doctors will immediately place a temporary dental crown on the newly inserted titanium rod. This is referred to as immediate loading, and it is the most preferred option for many of our patients.

The biggest benefit of immediate dental implants is, of course, the fact that they are immediately placed. With immediate dental implants, patients avoid the need for multiple procedures and can get back to their normal lives – and foods – more quickly.

X-Guide Navigated Surgery

At Capital Center for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, our doctors use the latest technology available. In fact, our very own Dr. Emery is one of the creators of the newest and most advanced system approved for the placement of immediate dental implants, the X-Guide. Through computer guidance, this system allows our doctors to see in real time exactly where each implant should be placed, ensuring safety, comfort, and dental implant success.

Who Qualifies For Immediate Dental Implants?

While the idea of having your tooth extracted and a new, beautiful crown put in its place within a couple of hours may seem like the perfect answer to your problems, you must first be cleared for the procedure by one of our doctors. During your initial consultation, they will carefully evaluate your jawbone structure and overall health to determine if you qualify for immediate dental implant placement. To qualify for this type of implant, patients must:

  • Be in good overall and dental health
  • Be a non-smoker
  • Have sufficient jawbone to support the implant

Even if our doctors decide that you do not qualify for immediate dental implants, you will likely still be eligible for traditional dental implants. Your safety and comfort are very important to our doctors, and they will recommend the best course of action to ensure both of those.
